BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – We’ve all seen the reports of unidentified drones flying above New Jersey and New Jersey in recent days, and now several folks tell WCAX they’ve seen drones in Vermont neighborhoods.
The drones have been spotted flying at night over sensitive areas in New Jersey, New York, and other parts of the Mid-Atlantic region. But assurances from state and federal officials that there was no threat to residents, have done little to allay public concerns and conspiracy theories.
WCAX has received multiple tips of similar flying objects, including Thursday night. Viewers from Brattleboro to East Montpelier say they have seen them, some with red and green flashing lights.
“With anything in the air, it can often be really difficult to tell the size, or the speed of something, so it’s hard for me to say based on the video alone,” said Adam Zylka, the unmanned aircraft system team lead at UVM’s Spatial Analysis Lab.
He says the light patterns in the videos are consistent with a manned aircraft and that military flights that were taking place at the time are a plausible explanation for the objects.
