Rutland art center’s annual gingerbread house contest underway

RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – The Chaffee Art Center in Rutland is spreading holiday cheer with its annual gingerbread contest.

Designs for the gingerbread houses were submitted by children and adults earlier this month. The theme for this year’s contest is “Believe,” leaving a lot of imagination up to the artists.

The center’s Sherri Birkheimer Rooker says seasonal events like these help to draw more people from the community into the area — and to the arts. “People can come in and enjoy a hot cup of cocoa, some cookies, look around the mansion, enjoy the holiday spirit,” she said. “It’s about community and that’s what really everything we do is about.”

The gingerbread house display will be up at the historic mansion until at least December 28.
