Vt. State Police arrest different suspect in Townshend hit-and-run

TOWNSHEND, Vt. (WCAX) – A pedestrian was struck and killed earlier this month, and now, Vermont State Police say the driver charged was actually the passenger.

On December 10, 26-year old Shane Whittaker of West Townshend was walking along route 30 in Townshend, when he was struck by a truck and died from his injuries three days later.

The driver of that truck has now been identified as 34-year-old Daniel Carr of Townshend. Police said Carr fled the scene before they arrived.

Police say the passenger, 26-year old Jamee Shields initially took the blame as the driver. Shields recieved a criminal citation for providing false information to police.
