COLCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) – A traffic stop in Colchester turned into a chase. Police say just after 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, an officer pulled someone over on Main Street for a traffic violation.
They say after a brief conversation, the driver took off speeding. The officer went after him, but stopped in the area of Main Street and East Road.
Police searched the area and found the drive, identified as 57-year-old Peter Smith II of Burlington, walking down Depot Road.
Officers there say he continued to resist them, but was placed into custody and taken to the Northwest State Correctional Facility.
Smith now faces multiple charges, including eluding a police officer, providing false information, and negligent operation.
