SPRINGFIELD, Vt. (WCAX) – A historic theater group needs help saving their studio’s roof and the stage beneath.
The Springfield Community Players is one of Vermont’s oldest continually running amateur theater groups.
They’re on the hunt for funds to replace the roof of their performing center. The nonprofit says in the winter, the 35-year-old roof threatens props, sets and costumes with water and mold damage.
The group says without a replacement, they will have to find a new space where they can perform.
“Now we are at the point of having to take it all off and start at square one. It is important for us to have a space to store our items, as well as a space to perform in that keeps our ticket prices affordable for the community,” said Bernice Clark, the treasurer of the Springfield Community Players.
Organizers hope to restart production of plays in May, as usual.
