New Year’s Eve revelers reflect on 2024, hopes for 2025

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – New Year’s Eve celebrations had Burlington buzzing on Tuesday, as Highlight events took place across the city.

Things got underway Tuesday afternoon with fireworks scheduled at the waterfront at 8 p.m., to be followed by Cirque de Fuego honoring “Champ” by burning an effigy of the lake monster.

With hours left until 2025, we asked people celebrating at the waterfront for their thoughts on 2024 and their New Year’s resolutions for 2025.

“It was a fun and good year,” said Nathan Ray of Virginia.

“I’m happy it’s over,” said Jeffrey Brusven of California.

“It’s been a great year, looking to re-up in ‘25,” said Brian Levine of Philadelphia.

“I liked to play in the snow,” said Oscar Brusven of California.

“It was a hard year, you know, ups and downs,” said Alexa Pike of Virginia. “But the positives outweigh the negatives.”

“I say it was an improvement on the past years. It was a lot better than 2020 and 2021,” said Brayden Sabine of Virginia.

“Good riddance,” said Meredith Ray of Virginia.

Some set their intentions for 2025.

“Dry January is no social media for me,” said Sharon Zucowski of Essex.

“Only to enjoy is as much as I can,” said Lee Wrigley of South Burlington.

“I’m hoping to maintain my work-life balance with residency working 80 hours a week and things like that, and just maintain my community and friends and family,” Levine said.

“I’ll be applying to colleges and stuff, so probably just good luck with that,” Pike said.

Others are just hoping for the best.

“I don’t set myself up like that, I just sort of take one day at a time,” Katy Wrigley said.

“I’m not really hoping for anything, just no negatives,” Sabine said.

Many had the same wish.

“I’d like to see peace and harmony and goodwill to all,” Katy Wrigley said.

“I’m just looking forward to everybody coming peacefully together in this world,” Lee Wrigley said.

“Health and happiness,” Jeffrey Brusven said.
