Police release video of needle attack against Burlington officer

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – New bodycam video shows the moments police say a suspect tried to stab a Burlington officer with a needle.

It happened Monday at Feeding Champlain Valley. Police say Aaron Montgomery, 35, was approached by an officer who knew he had an arrest warrant. Police say a struggle ensued and that Montgomery pulled a needle out of his pocket and tried to stab the officer. They say he also kicked, spit, and attempted to bite officers.

Burlington Police Chief Jon Murad says the officer’s conduct was professional and did not violate any use-of-force policies. “It was an unusual level of resistance and an unusual level of threat that was displayed to the officer,” Murad said. “I think every man, woman in this agency that wears the uniform has experienced something somewhat like this at some point in their career. I think it’s indicative of the work these men and women do to keep this city safe,” he said.

Montgomery faces multiple charges and was released on conditions.
