St. Albans nuisance property measure now in effect

ST. ALBANS, Vt. (WCAX) – Landlords in St. Albans could be left to foot the bill for misbehaving tenants under a new measure that takes effect Wednesday.

Under the new policy, if police are called to a long-term rental three times in 90 days, the property is deemed a public nuisance and the landlord could be contacted.

Depending on their response, the city could impose fines of up to $800 a day until they are compliant.

It’s an effort to cut down on bad behavior including larceny, possession of stolen property, and drug activity.
