PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – A new mayor is set to be sworn into office in Plattsburgh on Thursday.
Mayor-elect Wendall Hughes, a Democrat, will officially take office during a noon inauguration ceremony at City Hall. Hughes comes from the County Legislature where he served as chairman. He has said he will focus on hiring a new police chief and bringing back a recreation program. He also inherits the stalled housing project in the Durkee Street parking lot.
Hughes replaces Chris Rosenquest, who didn’t run for reelection. In a statement this week, Rosenquest credited his team for accomplishments like getting millions in grant funding for housing and infrastructure improvements, deepening and repairing regional partnerships, and correcting and improving the financial stability of the city.
