LAS VEGAS (WCAX) – The man who died in a Tesla Cybertruck packed with explosives outside a Trump hotel was an active-duty U.S. Army soldier who earned his degree from a Vermont university, according to officials.
The man suspected of orchestrating the Las Vegas explosion and who is believed to have died in the truck has been identified as Matthew Livelsberger, 37. Seven other people were injured in the explosion.
WCAX News has learned that Livelsberger completed an online degree at Norwich University in 2019 in strategic studies and defense analysis.
According to CBS News, law enforcement sources said that Livelsberger was on active duty with the Army serving in Germany and was on leave in Colorado at the time of the incident.
Police say the vehicle was packed with fireworks and camping fuel when it exploded Wednesday outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department told our sister station, KVVU, that multiple agencies were investigating a possible connection between this incident and the terror attack in New Orleans that killed 15 people. However, on Wednesday morning, the FBI said it had found “no definitive link” between the New Orleans attack and the truck explosion in Las Vegas, and that they believe the driver in the New Orleans attack acted alone.
