Preclearance coming to North Country border

MOOERS FORKS, N.Y. (WCAX) – Plans from our neighbors to the north could impact your next trip over the border.

In 2017, the Canadian Parliament passed a pre-clearance agreement that allows Canadians visiting the U.S. to clear customs while still on Canadian soil. The move was praised by leaders in both countries.

Now, Canada is announcing their first location for the service, and it’s in our region. The Cannon Corners port of entry in Mooers Forks, New York, will debut the plan.

Canadian officials say it will help improve border security and make trade and travel between the countries smoother.
