Vermont Fish and Wildlife holds art competition for kids

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont Fish and Wildlife wants you to draw a fish, and you could win a big prize!

A few years ago, Vermont Fish and Wildlife partnered with Wildlife Forever on the “Art of Conservation” art contest, which asks kids in kindergarten through 12th grade to submit original artwork depicting fish. It’s a national contest, but Vermont requires students to research, write an essay, and then draw a native Vermont fish.

Winners will be awarded in four grade categories: kindergarten through 3rd grade, 4th-6th grade, 7th-9th grade, and 10th-12th grade. First, second, and third place winners in each category will get a rod and reel and their name will be entered in the state law book. First place winners will also be entered into the national contest.

“Last year, there was 50,000 entries into the program, which is a lot of fish drawings and fish illustrations and our Vermont entries did really well,” Corey Hart from Vermont Fish and Wildlife said.

The competition is free to enter, and entries are due by the end of February. Only digital entries are accepted, and they be must scanned and uploaded to the Vermont submission form. You can review other rules and guidelines here.
