MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont House Speaker Jill Krowinski has clinched her reelection to that post.
Vermont lawmakers Wednesday morning to relect the Burlington Democrat over Representative Laura Sibilia, an Independent from Dover by 111 to 35 votes.
Krowinski has held the speaker’s gavel since 2020.
The vote was one of the first orders of business as the session opened Wednesday. State lawmakers are poised to try to address pressing issues this session including rural healthcare system operating in the red driven by spiraling commercial insurance rates; an ongoing housing crisis; and spiking education spending that led to a double-digit property tax hike last year.
Gov. Scott on Thursday will deliver his inaugural address to a joint session.
