BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Burlington residents can now upgrade their library cards for expanded access to libraries across Vermont.
This week the Fletcher Free Library joined the Homecard Library System, which is a cooperative lending program made up of 30 libraries across northwestern Vermont. Anyone that registers for a Homecard can visit any member library for access to their collections, programs, and services.
Library staff say that since Vermont is one of only a few states that does not have a statewide library system, this system help fills that gap. “We’re always keeping our eye on access for equity reasons, for reasons of being able to offer a diversity of materials. We have limited budgets in our libraries these days, so the more that we are all able to share, the more that we’re able to get,” Fletcher Free Library Assistant Director Emer Feeney said.
Burlington residents interested in taking advantage of this new system should visit the Fletcher Free Library to upgrade their library card to a Homecard. Library patrons across the state who already have a Homecard are encouraged to visit Fletcher Free.
