Former Vt. Gov. Tom Salmon dies at 92

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (WCAX) – Former Gov. Tom Salmon, who served as Vermont’s 75th governor, died on Tuesday at the age of 92.

Vermont Digger reports he passed away at a Brattleboro convalescent home surrounded by family.

Salmon, a Democrat, was first elected governor in 1972 after serving as a state representative from Rockingham in the Vermont House. He went on to serve two terms before losing a bid to run for the U.S. Senate in 1976.

Salmon went on to serve as president of the University of Vermont and practice law.
