BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – One million acres of New York wetlands are now protected under new rules.
Those rules from New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation will safeguard wetlands to protect communities from flooding and create fish and wildlife habitat.
The updated regulations are already in effect.
They clarify the status of important smaller wetlands and streamline the process to appeal that status.
The DEC is hosting a webinar on Wednesday to detail the freshwater wetland regulations.
