BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A warning so you don’t fall victim to scams.
The Vermont Attorney General’s office has released the 2024 numbers and your biggest risk of scams is online.
Just over 3,500 scams were reported to the consumer assistance program through the AG’s office.
The most common this year was computer tech support scams. That tricks people with alerts about computer issues like malware.
That category also includes fake messages about packages or unauthorized orders.
Other popular scams last year include identity theft, impersonating a law enforcement officer, and Medicare card fishing.
The Vermont Attorney General says a good way to be aware of popular scams is signing up for the Vermont scam alert system.
If you were the victim of a scam, they want to hear from you.
You can sign up for alerts, learn more about scams, or report an incident on the consumer assistance program.
