Vt. man pleads not guilty to repeated sexual assaults

CHELSEA, Vt. (WCAX) – A Vermont man accused of repeated sexual assaults is being held without bail.

Police say Jonathan Rau, 40, of White River Junction, sexually assaulted victims who were known to him multiple times. He’s also accused of providing alcohol and marijuana to victims and filming some of the alleged assaults.

Court paperwork indicates Rau was a part-time student at Vermont State University’s Randolph campus. Court records also show he is a registered sex offender and runs a photography business.

Rau pleaded not guilty to more than half a dozen charges earlier this week and remains behind bars.

Editor’s Note: A previous version of this article said Rau was a former employee of Vermont State University-Randolph, as was indicated in court paperwork connected with the case. A VTSU spokesperson says Rau was never employed by the university, but was an employee of a contractor on campus for a period of time. They say he was terminated prior to the alleged assaults.
