Vt. National Guard report shows decline in harassment

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A new report could be showing progress after leaders at the Vermont Guard raised the red flag about sexual harassment.

The mandatory document came out earlier this month.

Since 2013, the Vermont Guard has been required to report any sexual assault, harassment, or discrimination among its ranks.

In 2022, the Guard saw an increase in sexual harassment complaints – topping 8 – something they vowed to address.

In a report released to lawmakers, the Guard says they received only two reports of sexual harassment last year.

However, that’s only one piece of the puzzle. We will continue to down the numbers and outline what that means for Vermont service members.
