2 Vermonters convicted in US Capitol attack among those pardoned by Trump

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – At least two Vermonters with ties to the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol are among the 1,600 who have been pardoned or offered clemency by President Trump.

Nicholas Languerand, formerly of Wolcott, and William Arthur Nichols Jr. of Manchester, were accused of some form of assault. Languerand was sentenced to four months in prison and Nichols received a sentence of 44 months.

Trump’s action, just hours after his return to the White House on Monday, paves the way for the release from prison of people found guilty of violent attacks on police, as well as leaders of far-right extremist groups convicted of failed plots to keep the Republican in power after he lost the 2020 presidential election to Democrat Joe Biden.
