MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont environmental officials have released their latest update on efforts to clean up the state’s waterways.
The Department of Environmental Conservation’s Vermont Clean Water Initiative 2024 Performance Report says the state has invested more than $603 million in projects in the last nine years to cut pollution, including projects to reduce flood damage and flood risk.
“Each year, this report gives us the opportunity to reflect on that success and strengthen our commitment to protect, enhance, and restore the health of our rivers, lakes, and wetlands. Our water quality challenges were decades in the making, and while we’re making significant headway, it will take time and continued investment to achieve our goals. At the same time, clean water projects are vital to our community resilience in the face of flooding and climate change,” Natural Resources Secretary Julie Moore said in a statement.
The DEC is hosting a webinar on Thursday from 12:00 to 1:00 to go over the report.
