MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Monday is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, and here in Vermont a group gathered in Montpelier to mourn lives lost.
Monday marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland.
The Vermont/New Hampshire chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace, organized the event held on the statehouse lawn.
Descendants of survivors of the holocaust and other genocides spoke to the crowd. Organizers say this day is to both recognize the horrific loss of life that occurred in the Nazi genocide, and prevent future genocides from occurring again.
The group will return to the state house on Tuesday, January 28 for a day of legislative advocacy.
