More Upstate Correctional Facility staff hospitalized for possible exposure to unknown substance

MALONE, N.Y. (WCAX) – Even more staff at the NYSDOC Upstate Correctional Facility in northern New York were sent to the hospital for possible exposure.

This is now the third incident connected to an unknown substance that has affected more than 20 staff members there, and now the facility has been sent into lockdown.

Union officials believe it’s related to a synthetic drug that has gotten inside prison walls. The prison will undergo a full search which will include bringing in drug-sniffing dogs.

The staff are being treated with Narcan at the hospital and are expected to be okay.
