Community trust reaches goal to buy South Strafford general store

SOUTH STRAFFORD, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont music sensation Noah Kahan’s favorite general store is getting a new lease on life.

The long-time owners Sue and Melvin Coburn are retiring after 47 years and needed a buyer or they’d be forced to close.

A nonprofit community trust has stepped up to save the store, reaching a $1.8 million goal.

We’re told there are now serious conversations taking place with a well-qualified proprietor to run the business. They hope to close on the sale by the beginning of June.
