COLCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) – A family will soon get to turn the key and unpack at the first Habitat for Humanity home in Colchester.
Teams of volunteers worked every Tuesday and Thursday starting around mid-June to build the new home on Canyon Estates Dr.
Officials say it takes on average about 300 volunteers to help build.
The home remains affordable – and it cannot be flipped for market rate prices – which Habitat says helps to provide more affordable options to families.
“To help build this house for this family or with this family … because the family puts in, in addition to purchasing the house, they’re putting in 400 hours of sweat equity, helping us build that house,” Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity Executive Director David Mullin said.
The next Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity projects will be in Burlington and South Burlington.
