BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Organizers of an upcoming event in Burlington are blaming crime and safety concerns for lagging ticket sales.

The Vermont Burlesque Festival says tickets usually sell quickly for their Burlington shows, but that’s not the case this year.

While the shows in Barre are on track, festival organizers say a question posed on social media confirmed that many patrons are concerned about safety in Burlington.

In response, the festival says the city and the Hilton hotel — which is hosting the festival — will be increasing security in the College Street Parking Garage around show times.

Organizers say Burlington has always been the prime event of the festival and they are working to make sure everyone feels safe.
