BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – An inaugural fundraiser at a Champlain Valley Union High School filled hand-made soup bowls, reminding the community that your help benefits those whose bowls go empty every day across the state.

Empty Bowls is raising money for the Hinesburg Food Shelf, a non-profit that supports local residents in need.

The dinner was organized by CVU junior Teryn Hytten, who not only crafted each of the ceramic soup bowls, but also hopes to pass along what she calls a new tradition to younger students.

“Really honored by the amount of people who are coming to this event this year, and we’re hoping that in the next few years we can see the same level of participation and grow the event,” said Hytten.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children under 12. The dinner starts at 6:00 p.m. in the high school’s cafeteria. Organizers hope you can bring any canned goods in addition to your donation. If you can’t make it, there are more ways to donate on CVU’s website.
