More than a dozen skiers and snowboarders rescued in Killington backcountry

KILLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday first responders safely rescued 21 skiers and snowboarders, including six juveniles, from the backcountry in Killington.

According to the Killington Police Department, team members hiked and snowshoed approximately five miles in frigid temperatures to assist in evaluating and bringing those lost back to safety.

As teams were ready to clear, another call came in for two more skiers who were lost in the backcountry. Several rescue crews returned into the woods to bring them out safely, around 7:30 p.m.

Teams from Killington Search and Rescue (KSAR), Killington Fire Rescue, Killington Rescue Ski Patrol, Rescue Inc. assisted.
