WASHINGTON (WCAX) – New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik and fellow GOP members Monday took aim at President Biden over what they call his administration’s failed border policy.

At a press briefing in Washington, Stefanik said the country was being “invaded” by record numbers of illegal immigrants, many of them transporting illegal drugs or with criminal records. Stefanik has called on Governor Kathy Hochul to join the 25 governors supporting Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

“Texas not only has the right to defend itself but must take a stand for the sake of our country’s sovereignty and future. I am proud to stand with Texas because this is not just a Texas problem. This is a national crisis,” Stefanik said.

It comes as the House Tuesday takes a key vote Tuesday toward impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over what GOP leaders call his “willful and systematic” refusal to enforce immigration laws.

Mayorkas has defended his work and his negotiations with the Senate on a border deal. He urged the House to focus on updating the nation’s “broken and outdated” immigration laws for the 21st century and an era of record global migration.
