SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A Burlington man who police say pistol-whipped another driver during a fight and later crashed into a parked car faces charges of aggravated assault and DUI.

Monday evening, South Burlington police were called to a report of an assault in the parking lot of a store on Shelburne Road.

Officers say two drivers had some kind of fight on Shelburne Road that ended up in the parking lot of the closed business. They say that’s where Brian McGrath, 24, of Burlington, hit the other man with a 9 mm pistol, injuring him. They say McGrath then took off in his truck.

About an hour and a half later, Burlington police say McGrath hit a parked car on Manhattan Drive. He was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI, and police say they found a loaded semi-automatic pistol.

McGrath was sent to the South Burlington Police Department where he was processed for DUI. Officers there found there was an arrest warrant out for McGrath. He was jailed for lack of bail.
