TROY, Vt. (WCAX) – We are learning new details about a homicide investigation in the Northeast Kingdom and arrests in connection with the case.
Court paperwork connects the dots between a woman who went missing and three people arrested during the state police investigation.
The investigation led police to a home on Route 100 in Troy this week, almost a week after Kayla Wright, 29, of Derby, was reported missing.
Federal court documents obtained by WCAX News show the home belongs to Bryanna Rooney and Thomas Rooney, and that Kayla Wright spent time there and was involved with drugs.
A ping of Wright’s cellphone led police to the house, where they found the phone inside.
The affidavit goes on to say Wright had been associated with an individual who went by “AB,” who was later determined to be Jakiy Tramaine Corey Keith.
Police say the day after Wright went missing, Keith reached out to the family to tell them Wright was dead and her body was put into a toolbox and tossed into the river. Police recovered her body on Tuesday.
When police interviewed Keith, he told them another person went to the Route 100 home, confronted Wright about fake money and shot her.
Bryanna Rooney, Thomas Rooney and Keith were all arrested on federal drug charges.
They have not been charged in the homicide. It’s not clear if any of them pulled the trigger.
