Woman found dead in Vermont was strangled, police say

WASHINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Police say a woman found dead in Washington, Vermont, last October was strangled.

Hunters found the body of Tanairy “Tanya” Velazquez Estrada, 23, in the woods along Poor Farm Road in Washington on Oct. 25.

Wednesday, Vermont State Police said the medical examiner found Estrada died of asphyxia due to strangling, and her death was a homicide.

Police say the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information that could help investigators is asked to call the state police in Berlin at 802-229-9191 or to leave an anonymous tip online.
