
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A sharp cold front blasted through the region Wednesday night, bringing damaging winds and frigid temperatures.
Nearly 12,000 utility customers in Vermont lost power during the peak of the storm, with the hardest hit areas in the southern part of the state, including Windham, Windsor, and Bennington Counties. As of Thursday morning, utilities reported nearly 5,000 customers remain without power.
In New Hampshire, emergency officials say more than 14,000 customers are without power and wind advisories remain in place for some areas.
The Mount Washington summit recorded peak wind gusts of 147 mph and wind chills of around -60 F.
