SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Police are warning the public that a sex offender deemed at high risk to re-offend will be released from prison in Vermont on Friday.

The Department of Corrections says Kerry Schunk, 39, will be living at a South Burlington motel.

Schunk was convicted in 2019 of aggravated sexual assault on an 18-year-old woman. That happened after he was released from jail on a previous sex assault conviction, when as an 18-year-old he had a sexual relationship with a 12-year-old girl.

Officials say that compared to other incarcerated offenders, Schunk is considered at moderate to high risk to re-offend. They say if he did re-offend, his victim would likely be an adult woman that he knows.
