RUTLAND CITY, Vt. (WCAX) – City leaders are reacting to a new aerospace investment supporting General Electric’s manufacturing plant in Rutland.
The company announced that nearly $25 million out of a $650 million investment will go to its manufacturing site in Rutland. The money will be used for new machines and tools to help support and increase the production of commercial and military aircraft engines.
Rutland Board of Aldermen President Michael Talbott said that investing in businesses in the city is starting to happen more frequently.
“It’s really encouraging that they’re investing that amount of money into the Rutland plant. GE is a huge corporation with a lot of resources and I think they do their research before they invest. So if they’re willing to invest that amount here, it’s because they know something, right? They know that Rutland is primed for growth and development, and I think we’re seeing that all over,” Talbott said.
General Electric also said the building will receive some utility upgrades, and the company expects to hire 1,000 employees for open positions across its U.S. factories.
