One killed in three-vehicle collision on Route 7 in Bennington

BENNINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Bennington Police say just after 5 Saturday morning, a three vehicle crash left one person dead and two others injured.

Emergency crews closed that section of Route 7, Mile Marker 15.4, for over 5 hours Saturday.

The Bennington Police Department, Bennington Rural Fire Department and Bennington Rescue Squad responded to the scene north of Exit 2. They say one vehicle was on fire so both northbound and southbound lanes were closed.

Police say Devin Francis, age 25 of Bennington, was pronounced dead at the scene. They say he was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee northbound, when it crossed the center line into the oncoming Ford truck operated by Richard Davis, age 49 of Sunderland. Davis was transported to Albany Medical Center with significant head injuries.

A third vehicle, a Dodge Caravan, driven by Kevin Tanner, age 59 of Rutland, then collided with that crash scene. Tanner was also transported to hospital with reported minor injuries.

Route 7 was closed for approximately five and a half hours Saturday.
