SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Curling for a cause in South Burlington this morning.

Thirty-two teams from local sponsors competed in the 12th annual Curling Classic at Cairns Arena. The event benefits the Howard Center, Dragonheart Vermont and other nonprofits, organized by the South Burlington Rotary Club. They got help from Green Mountain Curling Club and Rutland Rocks Curling Club, which donated their time and equipment. Teams were judged on their performance, but also on their team spirit, fundraising and costumes.

“It’s something that everybody kind of just wonders, ‘How do you do it? What’s it like?’ So it brings people out to see it, which is really great. And to try it,” South Burlington Rotary Club member Leslie Mercy said.

The event raised about $60,000 for local nonprofits.
