Car engulfed in flames after driver strikes deer

SUNDERLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – A teenager has been hospitalized after hitting a deer and crashing into a tree.

Around 11:30 Tuesday night, state police responded to a report of a car engulfed in flames on North Road in Sunderland.

Police say the 17-year-old driver was speeding when they struck a deer. The car then hit a tree down the road before it began burning.

The driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for treatment.
