BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The eclipse may only come about once a century but eclipse glasses could get a 2nd chance.

The Chittenden Solid Waste District is working with Astronomers Without Borders to keep Eclipse sunglasses from ending up in the landfill. After the eclipse, CSWD will have collection centers across the county for used glasses that AWB will send across the globe so everyone gets a chance to experience the solar spectacle.

In the past, AWB has sent eclipse glasses to people in Africa, Asia, and North and South America to people who would otherwise be able to see the event safely.

CSWD collection bins will be at all drop-off sites, as well as at event locations in Chittenden county.
