BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (WCAX) – Brattleboro’s Hermit Thrush Brewery will be serving its last rounds after the owners recently announced they are closing.

Tucked away in downtown Brattleboro is a brewery with sours that customers say stand out.

“Craft breweries try to do sours, but these are dedicated sours. And so I’ve drank a lot of sour beer — this is some of the best I’ve ever had, especially their dark sour beer,” said Ethan Demmy, who was visiting Brattleboro Friday.

“I found craft beer when I was in college here in Vermont. Vermont is known for its craft beer,” said Timothy Kachnic.

Hermit Thrush Brewery has been creating varieties of sour beer since 2014 but the owners said it’s time for the last call because they are closing the shop.

“I’m gonna miss the beer, of course. But I’m gonna miss that I can come with my buddies. It’s one of the spots, like I said, we would come. It’s like a landmark here in Brattleboro,” Kachnic said.

The owners weren’t able to speak with us on Friday but in a post to social media said that balancing consumer price demands with producing their beer proved to be difficult and that the evolving market dynamics also played a factor.

“Since it’s closing, I bought a whole bunch of beer to take home,” said Demmy said.

Owners say Sunday will be their final day of flight service at the bar however they’ll continue to sell beers online until their inventory runs out.
