BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Health officials are reminding Vermonters that poultry safety is no paltry problem.

According to the Health Department, backyard birds can carry dangerous bacteria like Salmonella and E. Coli.

With backyard birds and wild flocks returning for the spring season, they offer some tips to keep yourself and your flock fit.

Tips include separating and cleaning equipment outside, washing coops regularly, cleaning eggs before putting them in the refrigerator, and of course – washing your hands when you’re done.
