MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – The Vermont Senate will not try to override Gov. Phil Scott’s veto of a ban on flavored tobacco.

Scott vetoed the bill last week saying it was hypocritical and inconsistent to ban flavored tobacco when Vermont allows the sale of cannabis and alcohol.

The ban passed through the Senate with 18 votes– two short of the two-thirds majority needed to override a veto.

On the Senate floor Thursday afternoon, Senate President Pro-Tem Phil Baruth said they have no intention to try to override.

Senate lawmakers then voted to send the bill back to committee, meaning Scott’s veto will stand.
