MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – One of Central Vermont’s only homeless shelters is extending its seasonal operation.

Officials at the Good Samaritan Haven in Montpelier say they housed 68 different people over the winter, and usually have 15 or more people staying at the shelter each night.

The space at the former Elks Club was set to close at the end of this month. But folks at Good Samaritan say the continued demand will keep the shelter open until May 31.

The state is picking up the tab, but when we asked officials at the shelter how much the lease costs per month, they did not disclose the amount.
