BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The Vermont Chief School Officer is on the job after Governor Phil Scott’s appointment faced backlash.
After Zoie Saunders was tapped by the governor to head the Agency of Education, democrats and progressives criticized the pick, saying Saunders doesn’t have enough experience in the public school system.
Saunders worked for three months as an administrator at a Florida charter school, and before that, she served as the Chief Education Officer for Fort Lauderdale for five years.
Now in office, Saunders says she will prioritize getting to know Vermont schools to address the needs of students while dealing with affordability concerns.
