MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – There’s new leadership on an influential legislative committee in Montpelier.
Senator Jane Kitchel, D-Caledonia County, was nominated Tuesday by colleagues to sit on the Committee on Committees. She will take the place of Senator Dick Mazza, who has occupied one of three positions on the committee for decades but stepped down recently over health concerns.
The little-known committee determines the chairs and members of Senate committees, which has a big effect on which bills are taken up.
Kitchel, who already chairs the powerful Appropriations Committee, will join the lieutenant governor and senate president on the committee.
Her formal election will happen next week.
