WOODSTOCK, Vt. (WCAX) – After 15 years of hosting a literacy festival in Woodstock, Bookstock organizers have announced they are canceling this year’s festival and suspending any future plans.

The summer event has hosted over 400 authors and sold over 70,000 books on the town green. In a statement, organizers say they simply couldn’t pull off the job this year of coordinating the numerous partner organizations, volunteers, and supporters.

“There was a great deal of sadness. We’re concerned about the many authors and others who are depending on us. So, it’s quite painful,” said Peter Rousmaniere, the festival’s co-founder. “We have to simply look forward to the future of doing something equal, if not better.”

He says he thinks the festival could happen in the future but nothing is set.
