QUECHEE, Vt. (WCAX) – Businesses along Route 4 in Quechee are bracing for two years of traffic backups as the bridge over the Quechee Gorge gets repaired.

The Quechee Gorge bridge is now down to one lane as crews make needed structural and cosmetic repairs to the span. The road is heavily traveled, especially during the height of Vermont’s summer and fall tourism seasons. Businesses near the bridge are encouraging drivers to be patient and reminding them that stores in the area are still open.

“It will take longer for everybody driving through, since this is a main route to get to Woodstock, Killington, over to White River, West Lebanon New Hampshire. So use caution coming out but we still want to see everybody traveling through and having a great time,” said Alyssa Jarvas, manager of The Vermont Spot.

The repairs are estimated to cost more than $23 million. The work is expected to last until the summer of 2026. One sidewalk will be open at all times for viewing and there will still be walking access to the bottom of the gorge.
