HOLLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont State troopers rescued a man from a frigid pond Friday after his boat capsized.

It happened just before 11:30 a.m. on Holland Pond close to the Canadian border. Police say two troopers responded after the man was spotted clinging to the boat about 150 feet from shore.

One trooper swam toward the man while the other used a nearby paddle boat.

The man, later identified as Kevin Foerster, 37, of Barre, was brought back to shore and evaluated by EMS. While he was okay, police say a dog that was with him did not survive.

Police say Foerster was not wearing a life jacket.
