PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – Summer is on the horizon in Plattsburgh, and so are new parking fees at the city beach.

The Common Council approved a new set of fees this month, changing the daily rate from $12 to $13.

There’s also a new change for Plattsburgh Town residents, who will now pay $30 for a seasonal beach pass. Those outside the town will pay $60.

Mayor Chris Rosenquest says parking in the former Crete Center’s parking lot and parking for city residents will remain free. He says the new fees for town residents come after the expiration of an agreement between the two municipalities.

“The headache hasn’t been worth certainly the modest payment the city has been getting. I know it’s been maybe a little bit more convenient for town residents to get into the beach for free but at the end of the day, the city gets $4,000, $5,000 from that agreement and the agreement is now expired,” said Rosenquest, D-Plattsburgh.

The mayor estimates the city could generate around $6,000 from the $30 passes. He says all the revenue from the parking fees will go toward the beach.
