Vt. Fish & Wildlife testing new rainbow trout strain

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont wildlife officials are asking for help from anglers as they stock a new strain of rainbow trout.

The new Eagle Lake strain will be compared to the traditionally stocked Erwin-Arlee strain for catchability, survivability, and growth.

The new fish look very similar but can be identified by a clipped ventral fin. Anglers can report their experience online.

This is the final year the two strains will be stocked as part of this evaluation. a final decision about which strain will continue to be stocked in Vermont will be made in 2025.
